On New Year's Eve in 2005, the power in Humboldt County, California flickered once, then went off. Extreme flooding in the area had closed nearby power stations and trees, felled by strong gusts of wind, blocked many rural roads.

Very nice to know. I was surprised that Apple doesn't make this option available all of the time, but maybe it is to help prevent abuse. I remember seeing something like this when Apple first launched its music store, but I recently was unable to find it.

I thought this article was an interesting alternative perspective to most of the negative reviews. I can't say I agree completely since Aperture does have some problems, but it was insightful nonetheless.

I've always wanted one of these but they're pretty costly. This product improves on others that I've seen by separating the alarm from the wrist band. That way if your arm is underneath your pillow, the alarm can still wake you up. Anyone want to lend me $250?

.mac is a collection of online and internet based tools and services designed to improve the Mac experience. It currently costs $100/yr. and I often see people trying to decide if they want to renew their subscription or if they'd rather save their money.
